Jinling Institute of Technology (JIT)
Located in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, JIT offers full-time undergraduate and postgraduate courses in advanced science and technological fields. JIT structures itself upon the strategic research of the reform pilot of the Ministry of Education on application-oriented universities of science and technology. JIT is the founding unit of the Association of Universities (Colleges) of Applied Science and chairs the Alliance of Applied Undergraduate Universities in the Yangtze River Delta Region.
In 2021, JIT was approved as a master’s degree awarding institution. JIT’s predecessor is the Jinling Polytechnic University, which was founded in 1980 as the first vocational university in China, the and Nanjing Agricultural College, which was founded in 1958 and rebuilt in 1984.
In June 2002, approved by the Ministry of Education, Jiangsu Provincial Government, and Nanjing Municipal government, Jinling Polytechnic University and Nanjing Agricultural College were amalgamated into Jinling Institute of Technology. JIT was officially established in March 2005.
JIT covers 1,016,400 square meters, including a construction area of 676,900 square meters. JIT owns 2.868 billion RMB in assets, of which the value of teaching and research equipment is 575 million RMB. There are more than 20,000 full-time undergraduate students, and nearly 170 master’s degree students were recruited for the first session this year.
JIT has established 20 secondary schools, faculties, and colleges, including the School of Marxism Studies, Business School, Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, College of Intelligent Science and Control Engineering, College of Architectural Engineering, School of Software Engineering, School of Network Security, School of Computer Engineering, School of Electronic and Information Engineering, School of Network and Communication Engineering, Academy of Art, College of Animation, School of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, School of Animal Science and Food Engineering, Faculty of Materials Engineering, College of Foreign Languages, College of Science, College of International Education, and Department of Physical Education.
11 professional master’s degree authorization points have been set up. JIT has established 63 undergraduate programs in Economics, Literature, Engineering, Agronomy, Management, Art and Science. Urban and Rural Planning, Software Engineering, Horticultural Science, Business Administration, and Design Science have been awarded “Key Disciplines” at the Provincial Level in Jiangsu. 15 programs, including Computer Science and Applied Economics, have been awarded as “Key Disciplines” at the Municipal Level (including 2 Cultivate Disciplines). Accounting is one of the National Characteristic Specialty Construction Programs. There are 8 National First-class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites, including Software Engineering, Fashion and Costume Design, Accounting, Tourism Management, Electrical and Intelligent Building, Animation, Computer Science and Technology, and Environmental Design. 15 of the programs including Materials Science and Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Animal Medicine, Accounting, and Classical Philology, are Provincial First-class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites. The programs of Software Engineering, Animation, Accounting, Building Electricity and Intelligence are the first-period Jiangsu Provincial Brand Programs. The program categories of Machinery, Civil Engineering, Business Management, and Design are Provincial Key Program Categories. Accounting, Fashion Design and Engineering, Animation, and Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation are Provincial Specialty Programs. Materials Science and Engineering is the pilot program under the Outstanding Engineer Education Training Plan of the Ministry of Education. Telecommunication Engineering and Software Engineering are Provincial Outstanding Software Engineer Education & Training Programs. Materials Science and Engineering, and Architecture are the Provincial Excellent Engineer Education & Training Programs (2.0). Accounting, Tourism Management, Software Engineering, Fashion and Costume Design, Animation, and Building Electricity and Intelligence are the pilot programs of the provincial industry-teaching integration.
14 courses were selected as the first batch of National First-class Undergraduate Courses, and 27 courses were recognized as the first batch of Provincial First-class Undergraduate Courses, 3 courses were approved as first-class courses of provincial industry-teaching integration. There are 2 Professional Comprehensive Reform Pilot Projects of the Ministry of Education, 4 Provincial Excellent Teaching Teams, 1 Provincial Excellent Teaching Organization, 1 Provincial Excellent Science and Technology Innovation Team, 2 Provincial Key Laboratories for University Construction, 1 Provincial Experimental Base for Innovation of Talent Training Mode in Higher Education, 1 Provincial Key Industrial College Construction Site, 5 Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers and 4 Provincial Practical Education Centers (including construction sites).
JIT has been strengthening the internal training and external introduction of talent, and striving to build a highly qualified faculty that meets the high requirements of cultivating application-oriented talent. There are around 1,300 full-time teachers, including 163 with senior titles, 1 National Youth Talent, 1 double-appointed academician, and 6 (honorary) professors. There are also several State Council Special Allowance Recipients, National Outstanding Teachers, Jiangsu Prominent Teachers, Jiangsu Provincial Young Experts of Outstanding Achievement, Jiangsu Provincial Training Targets of Project 333, New Talent of Cyan Project, Talent of Jiangsu Province “Six Talent Peaks”, Talent of Jiangsu Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Nanjing Top Middle-aged and Young Talent, Zijin Talent, and Nanjing Labor Models.
Adhering to the school motto of Virtue and Prosperity and sticking to the talent cultivation ideas of being demand-oriented, competence-based, knowledge-practice-integrated,and innovation-oriented, JIT deepens the integration of industry and education and enhances cooperation with enterprises. It also actively innovates to cultivate talent with application-oriented capabilities, interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial skills in line with local economic and social development needs.
JIT has been leading its counterparts in China to construct online courses, among which 6 courses have been approved as National Excellent Online Open Courses. 73 of these courses have been launched on the Chinese University MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) platform, and 76 online courses have been launched on the Chinese University UOOC (University Open Online Courses) platform. JIT has won the second prize in the National Teaching Achievement Award, 2 first prizes, and 12 second prizes in the Provincial Teaching Achievement Award. JIT actively responds to the national call for “mass entrepreneurship and innovation” and vigorously supports the entrepreneurial practice of teachers and students.
Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology has accredited JIT Chuangkehui as a mass innovation space at the national level. Several national high-tech, local technology-based, and provincial private science and technology enterprises have been used as sources of innovation. In recent years, the employment rate of JIT has remained about 95%, accumulating more than 140,000 applied talent for society. Employers generally praise graduates, and many graduates have become the backbone of local economic and social development.
As its first priority, JIT attaches great importance to scientific and technological development, which takes the scientific and technological innovation platform as the carrier. Further, it takes the strategic emerging industry as forward-looking technology research and development, focusing on the patent application and technology industrialization and striving to enhance the research and development of science and technology and service capabilities.
In the past three years, JIT has obtained nearly 1000 authorized patents and undertaken nearly 2400 scientific research projects. The university is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Fund. Almost 30 scientific and technological achievements have won provincial and municipal science and technology progress awards and philosophy and social science research outstanding achievements awards.
JIT actively cooperates with the government, research institutes, and enterprises to collaborate with a high benchmark, in multiple forms and on numerous levels. JIT has built 80 industry-university-research science and technology platforms at or above the municipal level, such as Jiangsu Provincial Information Analysis Engineering Laboratory. Numerous scientific and technological achievements have been put into industries and achieved sound economic and social benefits. The brand effect of social service has been continuously enhanced, such as the Strong Agriculture and Enrichment Project in Jiangsu Province, Jiangsu Legal Aid Project, Nanjing Entrepreneur Intellectual Property Training Program, and Nanjing Agricultural Science and Education Lecturer Group.
JIT has been awarded the Advanced Unit of Jiangsu Strong Agriculture and Enrichment Project in County and National Harvest Award in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fishery: Agricultural Technology Promotion and Cooperation Award. JIT Lecturer Group of Agricultural Science and Education has won the award of the National Popular Lifelong Learning Project.
IAttaching great importance to foreign exchange and cooperation, JIT actively cooperates with offshore universities in promoting the reform of education and teaching.
Since 1995, JIT has been cooperating with universities in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France, Austria, Holland, USA, UK, Russia, Taiwan (China), Hong Kong (China) and Macao (China). Currently, JIT has four Chinese-Foreign Cooperatively-run programs approved by the Ministry of Education, including JIT-SUNY (USA) Horticulture (Biotechnology), JIT-QUT (Australia) Software Engineering, JIT-DMU (UK) Telecommunication Engineering, and JIT-GCU (UK) Civil Engineering, and 2+2 joint training program of Accounting approved by the Provincial Department of Education.
JIT has been awarded as an advanced institution of the High-level Exemplary Construction Project of Chinese-foreign Cooperative Education in Jiangsu universities, and has been successively approved as the Provincial Department of Education "14th Five-Year Plan" University Education Opening Quality Improvement Project, "Jiangsu Foreign Experts Studio", and the National Foreign Experts Project "High-end Foreign Experts Introduction Plan".
In recent years, JIT has won several honorary titles, including the National Home for Labor Model, Civilized Campus in Jiangsu, Harmonious Campus in Jiangsu, Advanced Unit of Graduate Employment in Jiangsu, Nanjing Civilized Unit, Active Unit in Building New Nanjing, Nanjing May 1st Labor Award, and Municipal Advanced Collective in the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games.
JIT persists in cultivating talent comprehensively and serving Nanjing comprehensively, adheres to the high-quality construction of a master’s degree-granting unit and high-level construction of a new application-oriented university, and vigorously implements the “Nanjing Strategy” and “Networking Strategy”. JIT is constantly strengthening its internal construction while promoting talent cultivation, and striving to write a new chapter of the new distinctive high-level application-oriented university.
